Henrik Fisker is making another attempt at producing electric vehicles.

Now that Fisker Automotive is officially dead, with its new Chinese owners renaming it Karma, Henrik Fisker has created Fisker, Inc. and plans to show off a premium, all-electric vehicle in the second half of 2017. In an interview with Bloomberg, Fisker said the new vehicle will be a “spiritual successor” to the Fisker Karma originally launched in 2012, which is now known as the Karma Revero.

Fisker Nanotech will be the company’s new battery division, operating as a new private corporation in Northern California. “For the last two years, I have been looking at battery technologies and wanted to see if there was something that could really give us a new paradigm,” said Fisker. “We had the strategy of developing the technology as fast as possible without getting tied down to a large organization, which would hold us back. Now we have the technology that nobody else has. And there is nobody even close to what we are doing out there.”

Serving as chairman of Fisker Nanotech is Jack Kavanaugh, who claims the company has already “developed prototypes that you won’t see anywhere else.” The team claims that the vehicle will boast an all-electric range greater than 400 miles, while having an industry-leading battery life that could match the life of the vehicle.

If all goes well with the first model, Fisker will follow a similar plan as Tesla, by developing a more affordable, mass-market electric vehicle with a price tag around $40,000 – like the Model 3.
