In partnership with SOLARWATT GmbH, BMW is offering buyers of the i3 and i8 EVs a carport fit with solar panels on the roof to help charge the brand’s electric vehicles.
The Solarwatt Carport System will be available to consumers when they purchase their BMW i vehicle, or through an online order. The glass-glass modules fitted to the roof will provide power to either the i3 or i8, or will pump its power into the customers home when there is no car around to charge.
BMW wants to ensure that when these cars launch, the first of which will be the i3 late this year, there will be many sustainable charging solutions.
