Toyota will be at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to defend its electric title, bringing an improved version of its TMG EV P002 that did last year’s record-breaking run of 10 minutes, 15.380 seconds.

With all the data gained from last year’s competition, the engineers at TMG’s electric vehicle technology center has generated even more performance from the powertrain as the team looks to best their record. The TMG EV P002 isn’t just a one-trick pony either, it also holds the electric record at Nurburgring Nordschleife.

The Radical-based chassis will undergo some more aerodynamic upgrades once the vehicle arrives the TRD USA facility in Salisbury, North Carolina. It will then undergo some track testing in preparation to the Hill Climb event. Pikes Peak veteran Rod Millen will be piloting the TMG EV P002 at the young age of 61 years.

“We are very excited to return to Pikes Peak alongside our Toyota colleagues from the United States,” said Claudia Brasse, TMG Executive Coordinator Strategic EV Development. “The TMG EV P002 has a perfect history of three records from three attempts, none of which have been beaten, so we have high standards to maintain.”

The TMG EV P002 is powered by a pair of electric motors with an output of 536 hp and 1,627 lb-ft of torque and a top speed of 143 mph.
