Slashing nearly 500 pounds from the Tesla Model S has resulted in a crazy 10.41-second quarter-mile time.
While conventional gasoline-powered cars also benefit from weight loss methods to improve their quarter-mile times, they typically also need plenty of go-fast modifications under the hood to improve performance. In the Tesla Model S sedan’s case, shedding weight is all it takes to make it a 10-second car. Tesla Racing Channel on YouTube took its Model S P100D to the Atlanta Dragway Streetcar Takeover Event and likely surprised a few cars on there.

The video above showcases a few of the Model S P100D’s runs, including one against a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The car tips the scales at 4,460 lbs compared to the factory’s 4,941-lb figure, helping it rip a 10.41 at 125.12 mph. The previous record was 10.44.
According to the video’s description, all the door speakers besides the driver have been removed, along with the front sway bar, and the majority of the interior, while the 12-volt battery under the frunk has been swapped out for something lighter.
