Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) is the first automaker to launch a brand exclusively dedicated to electric trucks and buses.

A division of Daimler Trucks, MFTBC announced at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show it will electrify its complete range of trucks and buses in the coming years. As part of the move, the company debuts its all-electric, heavy-duty truck concept with a range of up to 217 miles (350 kilometers). Called E-Fuso Vision One, the truck represents a range-topping model for the brand’s portfolio.

The E-Fuso Vision One has a gross vehicle weight of about 23 tons and is capable of carrying a payload of approximately 11 tons, only two tons less than its diesel counterpart. Daimler Trucks says it can be fitted with batteries up to 300 kWh. The automaker also acknowledged the electrification of long-haul trucks will still need considerable time, allowing the Vision One to fill the gap in the meantime as a heavy-duty truck for regional, intra-city distribution.

Daimler believes a possible market entry for the production version of the E-Fuso Vision One would be feasible within four years in mature markets such as Japan and Europe.

Along with the E-Fuso Vision One, the automaker also showed off its eCanter, the first series-produced, all-electric light-duty truck which was recently launched in New York City. The first units have already been delivered to customers in Japan including Seven-Eleven. In the U.S., the eCanter is being used by UPS, Habitat for Humanity, Wildlife Conservation Society, and the New York Botanical Garden.
