Storied British manufacturer Morgan has announced its EV3 electric three-wheeler will enter production in 2018.

The EV3, which was first shown last spring, is essentially an electric version of the v-twin powered Morgan 3-Wheeler.  Since the car was first unveiled, Morgan has entered a partnership with the electric propulsion experts at Frazer-Nash Energy Systems, allowing them to improve on the performance stats of the initial prototype. The production EV3 will have a 21 kWh lithium-ion battery and a single electric motor driving the rear wheel, enabling a range of 120 miles (193 km). Morgan says it will have comparable performance to the gas 3-Wheeler, which does 0-60 mph in 6 seconds and will top out at 115 mph.

“We are delighted to announce our technical partnership with Frazer-Nash Energy Systems as we enter this exciting phase of EV3 production,” said Morgan managing director Steve Morris. “We have been working closely on optimizing the EV3’s architecture in every way to develop a car which will offer proven reliability range and cooling performance, combined with the pure driving experience that is expected of every hand-crafted Morgan.”

The EV3 will enter production in the third quarter of next year at Morgan’s Pickersleigh Road factory following the completion of the model’s “rigorous test and development program,” the automaker said. We reached out to Morgan for a pricing estimate and were told an announcement would be made closer to the production date next year.
