Dyson, the luxury vacuum cleaner and hand dryer brand, has announced plans to release three inaugural electric car models by its 2020 timeline.

According to a report by the Financial Times, initial plans may call for its first model to be available in limited numbers, substituting the implementation of long-term, planned solid-state batteries for standard lithium-ion cells to  “establish a route to market, supply chain and a potential customer base.”

The second and third models are expected to be produced in higher volume, at a reduced cost. Much like Tesla’s approach, its first vehicle is upper end with a mass-market focus after that. No details on range, design, or other specifications have been provided.

The company has allocated a team of approximately 400 people and a treasure chest of $2.6-million for the range, working out of its London headquarters.

Dyson’s rumored plans to produce an all-electric car began in mid. 2017, with telltale signs through investments and expansion plans that saw £2.5-million ($3.4-million) invested in artificial intelligence research and the procurement of £174-million ($234-million) in government funding to advance its electric vehicle production.

Other activities saw key hires such as Aston Martin and Tesla veterans to lead various divisions.
