Jaguar Land Rover‘s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division has said it will get its hands on electric vehicles.
Speaking to Australian journalists, SVO boss John Edwards confirmed his company is looking forward to redefining what a performance car is with a range of SVO-tuned electric vehicles. “The rules of performance vehicles in a traditional market are very established and we react to those established rules,” said Edwards. “With electric vehicles, the rules aren’t established at all, so I think it gives us different opportunities.”
Unfortunately Edwards wouldn’t discuss in depth what SVO engineers are currently working on, but did explain that future high-performance EVs may not only offer more power, but more luxury. They’re also likely to carry the SVR badge, so the possibility of an I-Pace SVR isn’t very far-fetched.

Further alluding to the idea that an I-Pace SVR is in development, Edwards referred to the I-Pace eTrophy race car that was announced at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. When asked whether the I-Pace SVR is in the works, or whether it could be inspired by the race car, Edwards simply smiled and replied “possibly.” But in typical fashion, he quickly added, “Of course I would like to see it, but I have no shortage of crazy ideas I’d like to happen.”
Considering Jaguar Land Rover is planning even more all-electric vehicles, it’s little surprise SVO will be investing its time and efforts into making high-performance versions.
