Tesla Model 3 Production is Stopping Again

Tesla is still struggling to ramp up production for its Model 3, and will shut down again at the end of this month.

It’s actually a planned stoppage, as Tesla had previously warned that it will shut down production for 10 days this quarter to address manufacturing problems that have plagued the Model 3’s production line. Reuters reports the pause in production at Tesla’s Fremont factory will take place from May 26 to May 31.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed “humans are underrated,” saying that robots actually slowed production on the Model 3. The changes to the assembly line are working towards the goal of producing 6,000 vehicles per week by the end of June.

The company’s Fremont plant was shut down in February for a few days of rework, and production was also paused last month. Last month’s stoppage and the upcoming six days will add up to the planned 10 days that were announced.

Electrek reports Musk told employees it was “quite likely” Tesla would reach 500 Model 3s per day this week and asked staff to alert him of “any specific bottlenecks” on the production line.
