Nissan has celebrated the sale of the 100,000th Leaf by building an oddball convertible version of the electric hatchback.
The Japanese automaker provided very little detail on the chop-top Leaf, only saying that it’s a for-fun creation only and won’t be headed to production. They could’ve fooled us – this is the same company that dreamt up the Murano Cabriolet, remember.
Nissan presented the vehicle during a forum to discuss the creation of a “zero-emission society” in Tokyo. About 100 people, including local and prefectural government officials and company executives, attended the forum, Nissan says.

The new Leaf has a 40 kWh battery pack that provides an estimated driving range of 151 miles. A larger 60 kWh battery pack is expected to be introduced sometime this year, which will boost range to around 225 miles. The single electric motor makes a healthy 147 hp and 238 lb-ft of torque.
Nissan might not have any plans to put the open-top Leaf into production, but maybe we’ll see it displayed at various auto shows and Nissan activation events over the course of 2018.
