Automotive enthusiasts have so many reasons to flock to Japan.
From things like the Tatsumi Parking Area to the mountainous driving roads of Mount Haruna (made famous by Initial D), Japan is a dream for anyone who appreciates automotive culture. A new kind of enthusiast may be flocking to Japan soon enough, though, with the West Japan Railway Co. teaming up with Hello Kitty creators Sanrio to put a Hello Kitty-themed bullet train into service this year.
The Hello Kitty-themed shinkansen will be in service at the Shin-Osaka station in the Osaka prefecture, making back and forth trips to and from Hakata in the Fukuoka prefecture. It doesn’t skimp on the kawaii, with a pink exterior, pink flooring and Hello Kitty pictures and motifs just about everywhere you look. Even the seat headrests get special Hello Kitty-themed covers, which are joined by pink armrests with even more depictions of the mainstay kawaii character.

The pink train will hurtle through Japan at speeds of over 200 mph. The trip time is approximately 2.5 hours, so passengers will have plenty of time to take in all the cuteness and post photos to social media. There’s also a gift shop onboard the train where riders can buy up all the Hello Kitty-themed products their heart desires.
Now we’re just left trying to decide — do we go to Japan to fulfill all our automotive dreams, or do we go to ride the Hello Kitty bullet train?
