Tesla is Apparently Building its Own Car Carriers

Tesla and CEO Elon Musk have entered a new kind of hell: delivery hell. The electric-car maker’s delivery operations and logistics have quickly become insufficient for the sheer number of Model 3 electric cars being produced.

It now appears Tesla will take matters into its own hands and begin building its own car carriers. Musk himself tweeted the solution after a customer complained about the delivery time for his Model 3 AWD. Musk offered his apologies and said the company is “upgrading our logistics system.” He noted an “extreme shortage” of car carriers and said the company “started building our own car carriers this weekend to alleviate [the] load.”

The delivery fiasco comes as Tesla faces the end of quarter three, and all eyes will be on production and delivery numbers for the Model 3. Last quarter, Musk predicted the plant would begin making 6,000 cars per week by the end of August. The prediction came after Tesla reached its goal of producing 5,000 Model 3s in the final week of July.

However, the speedy production hasn’t come without hiccups. Tesla was the first automaker to reach the federal tax credit cap for electric cars, which hands out $7,500 to buyers. Future buyers will receive only a portion of the credit until it’s entirely phased out next year.
