Mercedes B-Class EV Spied Testing

Drawing closer to being production-ready, Mercedes was spied testing its b-segment luxury EV.

The maker previewed its compact electric car last September during the 2012 Paris Motor Show, but only as a concept wrapped in blue chrome. At the time, Mercedes said it expected the car to have a 125-mile range.

Much like other EVs, the car’s top speed is limited — in this case to 93 mph. It also offers the same interior space as the gas-burning B-Class because the battery pack is stored in the floor. Also typical to electric cars, there will be 228 lb-ft of torque available right from the start.

Mercedes is expected to market the car in North America late this year as as 2014 model and the fact that it seems to be going through cold weather testing would lend itself to that.
