Earlier this week, the internet was set abuzz when DeLorean returned from the dead with a new concept penned straight from Italdesign. The concept’s reaction was a mixture of optimism and skepticism from most, except Kat DeLorean Seymour — John DeLorean’s daughter. She was shocked and frustrated at the news of a DeLorean revival.
The same day most outlets broke the news of a DeLorean revival, Kat DeLorean Seymour took to Instagram to deride the revival, claiming that DMC is not affiliated with the DeLorean family. She took it a step further posting “Please stop speaking about my father, he despised you.”
That’s quite strong language, so we at Autoguide reached out to Kat DeLorean Seymour via Instagram, for clarity. Seymour claims to not have known anything about the company until she went to register the website domain name, only to find it had been taken by someone else. She insists the latest company isn’t affiliated with her, her brother Zach DeLorean, or anyone else in the DeLorean family. “ I am certainly not a fan of the push to imply they are the same company from 40 years ago,” wrote Seymour, via an Instagram direct message.
Instead, Seymour pointed me to her DeLorean Legacy website, which features a DeLorean concept rendering made by designer Angel Guerra. Her website is a work in progress, but she aims to chronicle the positive stories of her father, and the owners who have been doggedly keeping old DeLoreans on the road. In her messages to us here at AutoGuide, she claimed she didn’t want any drama but had been surprised and overwhelmed with the knowledge of an entirely new brand, and was learning along the rest of the world that her family name was being used on a new car.
We reached out to the new DeLorean company, asking if they were affiliated at all with the DeLorean family, but as of publication, they hadn’t responded. It is not clear by perusing DeLorean’s website, or Linked In if any DeLorean family member is involved with the latest DeLorean Motor Company efforts.
