Buick just unveiled exciting details of its future, in the form of the Wildcat EV concept. This slick-looking coupe is a preview of Buick’s direction as an all-electric brand.

The Wildcat EV bucks the trend of making every new EV an SUV or crossover, by being a low-slung 2+2 coupe. The styling language is all-new, and the front fascia has a shark-looking face with a low-mounted trapezoidal grille framed by c-shaped lighting elements. The proportions are low, long, and tidy, the Wildcat EV has a super long wheelbase with short overhangs. The front glass wraps around for a very sleek, racy appearance. “From every angle, the vehicle looks like it’s ready to pounce,” Buick’s global design CEO Bob Boniface is quoted as saying. On the back of the vehicle, a state-of-charge meter lets the world know that the Wildcat concept coupe is, in fact, an electric vehicle. The 18-spoke turbine wheels round out the Wildcat EV’s appearance.

Inside, the dashboard has a freestanding, floating appearance, with the typical screen that spans most of the dashboard’s length. Buick designers wanted to convey an emotional, warm feeling. Designers chose forms, shapes, and colors they say convey warmth, balance, and harmony.

Buick claims this Wildcat EV concept, is just the latest in the series of forward-thinking Wildcat concepts, dating back to the 1950s. These concepts were technological and design showcases, previewing what Buick had coming next. This Wildcat EV is unlikely to be produced, but we will see elements of this concept on Buick EVs in the very near future.
