Acura took the wraps off, or rather, left the wraps on, its latest LMDh prototype, the ARX-06.

The Acura ARX-06, which stands for Acura Racing Experimental – generation 6, is the latest LMDh prototype produced by the sporty luxury brand with a surprisingly rich racing heritage. This car will race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship hybrid-powered GTP category, starting in 2023.

According to Acura, the vehicle’s exterior styling was done by the Acura Design studio in LA, in conjunction with Honda Performance Development, the racing arm of Acura Motorsports, Honda Racing North America, and chassis supplier ORECA. Design director Dave Marek says that the exterior design of the ARX-06 was created in the same way the company would craft any passenger car. Once the company had the technical specifications locked down, the design was tweaked and refined as it was passed around, tested, and evaluated by many hands and groups. Underneath, the ARX-06 uses an ORECA-developed chassis, but with bespoke Acura bodywork, aerodynamics, and powertrain. Lots of hands and brains went into designing this car.

The ARX-06 has a tough act to follow. In 2021 and 2022, Acura won the Rolex 24-hour endurance race, even getting a 1-2 finish this year in 2022. Still, Acura’s continuing its previous partnerships with Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing, which just might lead Acura to another victory.

We aren’t sure exactly what the Acura ARX-06 will look like sans its 1960s wallpaper like camo, but whatever it is, we’re sure it’ll be a beast on the track.
