More details of the Polestar 5 have been released; the model will have a bespoke powerplant thus far not shared with any other Polestar product.

Polestar’s flagship model, the forthcoming Polestar 5, is shaping up to be a real on-road electric rocketship. The company released powertrain details, the new GT sedan will have 884 horsepower, and 663 ft/lbs of torque. Wow.

Coupled with the stratospheric power levels, the Polestar 5 aims to deliver on the driving experience. The head of Polestar’s UK Research & Development, Pete Allen, says “The platform combines low-volume performance car attributes with modern technological advances to bring light-weight, high-rigidity sports car chassis technology into mass production.” The Polestar 5 has a new, unique bonded aluminum platform, that Polestar says is key to “[creating] a driving experience that is as desirable as the design.”

All 884 horsepower is routed through the fancy new chassis via a front motor and rear motor, giving the car all-wheel drive. Most notably, the system uses an all-new 800V architecture, that Polestar has said in the past will not be shared among other Volvo or Geely vehicles.

Currently, prototypes of the Polestar 5 are making runs twice a day at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. We have no performance numbers, but the Polestar 5’s 884 horsepower puts it right in the same playing field of other super electric sedans like the Lucid Air Dream Edition or the Tesla Model S Plaid.

The Polestar’s aiming for a 2024 release of the new super sedan.
