Fisker is asking reservation holders an extra $5,000, via a non-refundable deposit, for its forthcoming Ocean EV SUV.

The production version of Fisker’s compact electric crossover was shown in late 2021. Shortly thereafter, reservations opened up, with a $250 refundable deposit assuring a spot for prospective buyers. Now, Fisker is asking deposit owners for an additional $5,000, non-refundable, for a special launch edition of the Fisker Ocean.

According to Electrek, and InsideEVs the additional $5,000 is to secure a reservation for the Ocean One. Fisker will only make $5,000 Ocean One launch editions, and Fisker says the deliveries of the vehicles will make their way into the hands of owners during September 2023. Right now, Fisker confirmed in a statement to Electrek that the brand is only confirming and producing examples of the launch edition Ocean One. The invitation to reserve the Ocean One has been extended to select reservation holders in Austria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, and Sweden.

It appears that the Fisker Ocean One Launch Edition comes with things like a special digital signature on the vehicle’s screen upon startup, bespoke badging, wheels, and interior. Also, the Ocean One is a whopping $68,999, well over the regular Fisker Ocean’s proposed $37,500 starting price.

In theory, the Fisker Ocean should be a direct competitor to EV crossovers like the Tesla Model Y, and Ford Mustang Mach-E, but the company hasn’t delivered any fully electric vehicles yet. The Ocean’s planned production should begin in November 2022.
