The Acura Precision EV concept is a sneak peek at the brand’s electrified future.
Acura teased a new concept, one that is supposed to be the preview of the brand’s electrified future. Acura didn’t give much information, just an 8-second dimly lit teaser video, and a two-sentence long press release explaining how the concept vehicle will debut next week at the Monterey Car Week, at Pebble Beach. Despite the lack of information from Acura, there’s quite a bit of information to glean from the video.
From what we know from previous announcements from Honda, its EV plan is a bit more multi-faceted than some other manufacturers. Right now, the brand only has the full EV Honda E premium city car, and a few EV Honda HR-Vs sold in China. In the future, Honda wants to release its own bespoke EV platform, but it also has plans to use GM’s Ultium platform to underpin at least the Honda Proluge production crossover SUV.
Although dark, we can see a high-riding stance, and a roofline similar to the MDX and RDX, suggesting that this EV concept will likely be an SUV. No word on a platform basis, but given that Honda’s own EV platform won’t be ready for a while, it’s possible that this Acura concept could use the GM Ultium platform. That means motor placement could be similar to the Chevy Blazer EV, which means FWD, RWD, or AWD could be available on the same model.
This is all speculation. We won’t know anything about the Acura Precision EV concept until it debuts next week at Pebble Beach.
