The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is part of a new, electrified Maserati era.
Italian manufacturer shared more details on its latest GranTurismo coupe entry, which offers a wealth of trims, and engine options, including a fully-electric version, this time. Although similarly styled to the old GranTurismo, this latest version is new, complete with new engines, and a full EV version.
The Maserati GranTurismo lineup starts with the base Modena trim, powered by a 3.0-liter V6. This engine, dubbed “Nettuno”, has two, twin-scroll turbochargers and generates an impressive 490 horsepower in the base Modena trim. Moving upward, the high-performance Trofeo trim bumps the Nettuno engine up to 550 horsepower.
The real star of the show, arguably, is the GranTurismo Folgore. The Folgore eschews combustion engines entirely, opting for full electrification. Underneath the Maserati’s curvy sheet metal, lies an 800-volt EV architecture that Maserati says was “developed with cutting-edge technical solutions derived from Formula E.” A 92.5 kWh battery provides juice to the 750 horsepower, tri-motor setup. The battery is T-shaped, explicitly done to allow Maserati to mount the seats low, and not compromise the sporty driving position.
Inside, Maserati made the Folgore a little more unique with exclusive upholstery and lasering on the dashboard. The Folgore also has special exterior accents, gloss black brightwork, and other touches to set it apart from the combustion engine version.
Pricing, range, and other details will come at a later date, but we expect all variants of the new Maserati GranTurismo to be pretty pricy. Expect a starting price of at least $170,000 for the base Modena trim.
