The Hyundai Ioniq 6’s range has been revised for even better results.

Hyundai’s new sleek electric sedan is the next step in Hyundai’s EV assault. First drives in its home market of South Korea are trickling out into our newsfeeds, but the quoted range just got a little better. Initially rated for 610 km (380 miles) on the WLTP cycle, the model has been revised, adding an extra four kilometers, bringing the quoted range to 614 km (382 miles). Not much, but still very impressive.

Hyundai cites the car’s low drag and other eco tricks, as the reason how it edged out such a high range. The Ioniq 6’s drag coefficient of 0.21 is the lowest of any Hyundai in the lineup, employing tricks like active aero flaps, wheel curtains, and that trick Saab-like rear spoiler, all contributing to a super slippery result. Apples to apples, the Ioniq 6’s range in the long-range, single motor form of 614 km (382 miles) beats the Ioniq 5’s 504 km (311 miles), which has the same motor, battery, and platform, albeit, not as of a slippery shape.

Granted, the WLTP results tend to be more forgiving compared to US or Canadian tests. For example, some outlets say that EPA results tend to be about 11% lower than the WLTP. EPA range numbers for the Ioniq 6 haven’t been released yet. Still, we can likely expect a similar range delta between the US and Canadian spec Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 5 when the vehicle officially goes on sale.
