Alfa Romeo has big EV plans for the US, literally.

The Italian premium brand has struggled to take hold in the United States. The lone two models it sells here (not counting the forthcoming Tonale crossover), the Giulia sedan and Stelvio are good-looking and fun to drive. Yet, they’ve failed to grasp much market share from established competitors from Lexus, Audi, BMW, and every other premium brand. Add in the lack of a third-row big crossover, and no hybrid or electrification option on the horizon (aside from the Tonale), and it’s really not hard to see why Alfa isn’t doing all that well.

But, the brand has big plans for the US. According to a report from The Drive, Alfa Romeo wants to launch a big “E-segment” SUV, with the US in mind. Oh, and it’ll likely be electric.

Alfa Romeo’s North American boss Larry Dominique told the outlet that the large SUV segment is a very important market for North America. The big SUV will likely be the same size as the BMW X5, so think mid to full-sized luxury crossover, with an optional third-row seat. The brand says that most of the design work will be done in Italy, but it will be developed for markets like the US and Canada in mind. Also, like many other automakers, Alfa Romeo has plans to axe its ICE models and go full electric.

Still, the Giulia sedan is important to the brand. Its replacement is already locked in, and Alfa Romeo’s first EV is due out very soon. The mystery big Alfa Romeo SUV should make it to North America by 2027.
