Audi is readying a Q8 e-tron that will be built to rival the upcoming Tesla Model X.
The Audi Q8 e-tron will sport electric powertrain technology developed by the R8 e-tron supercar, and the German automaker is targeting a practical range of 370 miles. The SUV will will have electric motors driving the front and rear wheels, much like the Tesla Model X, and is expected to have a large battery pack at least equal to the Model X’s 80-kWh unit.

Naturally, the Q8 will also be available with standard gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid variant. Also planned is a high-performance SQ8 model.
Sources believe the Q8 will be based on the next-generation Q7 SUV, but expect it to sport a much sleeker design and style. Don’t expect to see the Audi Q8 e-tron until after 2017.
