The automaker is claiming that it was unfairly targeted when the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission amended its regulations, which resulted in Tesla’s New Jersey stores becoming little more than galleries. The new regulations require new-car dealers to have franchise agreements before they can be licensed. Tesla however, uses a direct-to-consumer sales approach rather than relying on dealerships.
