Renovo Reveals All-Electric Supercar at Pebble Beach

A new all-electric supercar has been revealed at Pebble Beach with hopes of filling a vacant niche, and taking the fight to Italian exotics.

Startup automaker Renovo has been developing the Renovo Coupe for four years in secret, and this weekend the car will be officially revealed at Pebble Beach. Carrying a price tag of $529,000, the car is built on the Shelby CSX9000 chassis, and the company claims it can sprint to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. This is thanks to its battery pack which runs at 740 volts, delivering 500 hp and up to 1,000 lb-ft of torque instantaneously. For comparison, the Tesla Model S’ battery pack runs at 375 volts.

New lightweight lithium-ion battery technology helped the company keep the curb weight of the car relatively low at just 3,250 pounds, though range is only pegged at about 100 miles on a full charge. When it comes time to juice up, a standard level two charger will get the batteries full in five hours. However, a special quick charger can fill the car up in just 30 minutes.

“Renovo Motors sought to create an aspirational vehicle that demonstrates the performance, control, and excitement that is possible with EV technology,” said Renovo’s CEO Christopher Heiser. “We have poured our passion and innovation into the Coupe in an effort to deliver a truly amazing driving experience, and we’re honored to present the Production Prototype of our car at the Concours d’Elegance.”

Renovo’s founders are trying to fill a niche that is currently empty, while also competing with the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani and Koenigsegg.

An initial production run of less than 100 of these electric super cars will be created, with deliveries beginning next year in California.
