All those hoping for a Tesla Model D announcement next week, we’re here to shatter those dreams.
Earlier this week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk teased an upcoming announcement, simply saying that it was “time to unveil the D and something else.” Though we still don’t know what that something else is, it appears that the “D” will be a Model S variant now that someone has spotted the vehicle charging at an airfield ahead of its debut.

All we get for now is a rear shot of the Model S sporting a P85D badge and currently it’s being speculated that the P85D will be an all-wheel drive variant of the Model S. It makes sense, considering the upcoming Model X crossover comes with dual motor all-wheel drive and shares its underpinnings with the Model S.
The official announcement from Tesla on what the “D” is will come October 9.
