Although its future was in doubt based on the company missing many self-imposed deadlines, Detroit Electric has released the final design of its upcoming sports car.
Billed as the “world’s fastest production electric sports car,” the SP:01 has finally been revealed in production form, though only from the back. It is supposed to be on sale in North America, Asia and Europe starting in 2015. The company claims the car will have a 155 mph top speed and a 0-60 mph time of just 3.7 seconds.

The design now uses fastback styling that is said to improve aerodynamics compared to the design of the prototype. Other improvements include a new casing around the battery that is supposed to improve torsional rigidity along with protecting the car from fires.
As for production, the car was originally supposed to be produced in Detroit starting in 2013, but now Detroit Electric says that a new facility in the U.K. will build the car, starting before the end of this year.
