How interesting is it that a car can get faster with an over-the-air update?
It’s astonishing that we live in a time that Tesla can release an over-the-air software update for its new Model S P85D that makes it even faster from 0-60 mph. According to recent tweets from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the Model S P85D will improve its already fast 0-60 time by about 0.1 seconds thanks to an OTA update that changes its inverter algorithm. Tesla uses OTA updates to enhance its existing models, saving time for its owners from having to make a trip to the dealership but this one will also give Model S P85D owners more to smile about.

Musk also shared that Tesla dual-motor, all-wheel drive cars were originally developed for “insane traction on snow. Insane speed was a side effect.” When the Model S P85D was first announced, the American automaker said the sedan would do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.2 seconds. Whether that number is now accurately at 3.1 isn’t the focus of the news, but rather that the technology is here where cars can get faster by beaming an update through the sky.
