Chevrolet Bolt Production Confirmed for Detroit

Chevrolet has confirmed will add another electric vehicle to its lineup.

The American automaker announced plans to produce the Bolt at its Orion Assembly facility near Detroit. Introduced in concept form at the Detroit Auto Show and according to GM North America President Alan Batey, the overwhelming response was to “build it.” As a result, the company is moving quickly “because of its potential to completely shake up the status quo for electric vehicles,” Batey said.

The Bolt EV is expected to be available in all 50 states and is designed to offer an estimated 200-mile range while being priced around $30,000. Confirming earlier reports, the Bolt will be built at the same factory as the Sonic and Verano and will be receiving a $200-million investment for tooling and equipment while the Pontiac Metal Center facilities will receive $40 million for new dies.
