Chevy’s all-electric vehicle might receive a new name before production begins.
The Chevy Bolt Concept has been criticized for having a name that sounds too much like the Chevy Volt, so much so that GM management is thinking about changing the name. “Some people think it’s confusing,” Alan Batey, president of GM North America told the Detroit Free Press. “We’re still in the decision phase,” said Batey. “It could go either way.”

The Bolt EV is going to have a range of about 200-miles while being priced around $30,000. It is aimed squarely at the upcoming Tesla Model III, which is also targeting a 200-mile range. The new EV will be built at the same factory as the Sonic and Verano and will be receiving a $200-million investment for tooling and equipment while the Pontiac Metal Center facilities will receive $40 million for new dies.
Batey says that GM has “a little bit more time” before it has to decide on whether to switch up the name. The Bolt is expected to hit the market in 2017.
