Marking the first use of the Chevy Volt’s impressive powertrain in another vehicle, Cadillac will debut what it calls the ELR at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
Based on the Converj concept, it will combine the Voltec gasoline range-extended electric powertrain with Cadillac style and luxury in a two-door package. What isn’t clear is if the car will use the same powertrain, which produces just 149 hp in the Volt and a 0-60 time of around 9.0 seconds.
The ELR will mark the first electric car by Cadillac as it continues to roll out a slew of new products. This year saw the launch of the new XTS luxury saloon, as well as the 3 Series-rivaling ATS compact luxury sports sedan.
