Tesla is busy preparing its third vehicle to reach the market.
The Model X crossover is slated to launch by the third quarter of 2015 and a video taken in Palo Alto, Calif. shows that the brand is out testing the crossover on public roads. Styling looks mostly the same as the concept version that Tesla has already shown off, though camouflage is hiding some of the details from view.

The Model X has experienced delays, enough so that Tesla released a letter to its shareholders in the third quarter of 2014 explaining the slowdown. “Work continues on the finalization of Model X with the testing of Alpha prototypes and initial builds of the first Beta prototypes. Model X powertrain development is almost complete with the early introduction of Dual Motor drive on Model S. We recently decided to build in significantly more validation testing time to achieve the best Model X possible,” Tesla said in the letter.
The crossover will come with Tesla’s dual-motor all-wheel drive system as standard equipment and will offer three different powertrain variants: a 60 kWh, 85 kWh and 85 kWh Performance package. Range is expected to be around 300 miles with the 85 kWh battery.
