Tesla may be setting delivery records, but another state is now blocking sales.
The American automaker may have just begun celebrating the reversal on the sales ban in New Jersey, but now it has a new fight in the state of West Virginia. West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has signed legislation that will effectively prevent Tesla from selling vehicles in the state, following in the footsteps of others. The move won’t just affect Tesla sales in West Virginia but can potentially impact the sales of nearby states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Kentucky.

According to the bill that Tomblin has signed, a manufacturer may not “act in the capacity of a new motor vehicle dealer” or “operate a dealership, including, but not limited to, displaying a motor vehicle intended to facilitate the sale of new motor vehicles other than through franchised dealers, unless the display is part of an automobile trade show that more than two automobile manufacturers participate in.”
