Tesla will hit the mainstream in 2017.
The disruptive electric car maker will begin sales of its new Model 3 in the second half of 2017, but the car will debut much sooner.
During a first quarter sales briefing today, company CEO Elon Musk announced that he expects production to begin in the second half of 2017. The world premiere of the car will, however, occur nearly 12 months earlier in March of next year – roughly 10 months from now.

The month of March is a busy one on the automotive calendar with the Geneva Motor Show at the start of the month and often finishing with the New York Auto Show at the end.
Currently the most affordable model Tesla sells is a budget Model S priced at $69,900
The Model 3, however, is expected to retail for closer to $35,000 while still offering an electric range of 200 miles on a charge.
But before the Tesla Model 3 arrives, the Model X will go on sale later this year.
Today Tesla announced it is continuing to lose money, but at a slower rate than expected with a Q1 loss of $154.2 million. As a result the stock is up as much as $5 per share.
