The 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will have a new high-power monster sitting at its starting line this year.

Entered by Team APEV with MONSTER SPORT and Rimac Automobili, the new Tajima Rimac E-Runner Concept_One will be piloted by the legendary Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima at this year’s race up the mountain.

Tajima’s new race car lays down a combined output of 1,475 hp, more than twice the power of the car he used to set a Pikes Peak record in 2014. Four independent electric motors send power to all-four wheels while torque vectoring allows the car to adjust power to each specific wheel based on steering angle, speed, yaw rates and more. The run from 0 to 62 mph comes in just 2.2 seconds, while sprinting up to 124 mph takes just 5.4 seconds thanks in part to the car’s curb weight of 3306 lbs.

“We are quite confident that Tajima Rimac E-Runner Concept_One will break previous year’s record. He is a great driver with tons of experience. Interesting fact – he raced Pikes Peak his first time a year before I was born. 28 years later, we work alongside to push the limits further,” said company founder Mate Rimac.

Cars have been racing up the 12.42-mile long Pikes Peak road since 1916. It consists of 156 turns and climbs to an elevation of 4,720 ft.

The 2015 Pikes Peak Hill Climb takes place on Sunday, June 28.
