There will be one-million plug-in vehicles on the roadways worldwide by September.
According to a recent report, plug-in vehicle sales (which includes electric vehicles) have reached 910,000 through June 2015 and global sales are holding steady at a rate of 40,000 a month and climbing. If the rate of sales continues for the rest of this year, the world could potentially see 400,000 plug-in vehicles sold in 2015.
The U.S. has the most plug-in vehicles sold to date, with a cumulative total of 345,276 through June. That also means the U.S. market likely has sold more than 350,000 plug-in vehicles by now, accounting for one-third of the worldwide total. Looking at total market share, however, plug-in vehicles dropped from 0.71 percent of total vehicle sales in the first half of 2014 to 0.64 in 2015.
