Forbes believes Tesla Motors is the world’s most innovative company.

The publication has released its fifth annual list of The World’s Most Innovative Companies, naming Tesla Motors to the top spot for the first time. In fact, the American automaker bumped Salesforce.com to the No. 2 spot for the first time in five years. Alexion Pharmaceuticals followed in third for the fourth consecutive year, while taking the fourth and fifth spots were Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Arm Holdings PLC, respectively. Completing the top 10 were: Unilever Indonesia TBK PT, Incyte Corp, Amazon.com Inc., Under Armour Inc. and Biomarin Pharmaceutical Inc.

The rankings are based on analysis from Finstra Consulting in collaboration with Innovators DNA and uses data and a proprietary valuation model HOLT, a division of Credit Suisse. According to the publication, Tesla “has rewritten many of the rules hardened within the century-old auto business.”

Currently, Tesla sells the Model S electric sedan and recently introduced Ludicrous Mode, allowing the Model S to go 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds, faster than some of the supercars available in today’s market.
