Rolls-Royce may be the next luxury automaker turning its attention to electric vehicles.

As emissions regulations continue to tighten worldwide, more and more automakers are developing electrified vehicles including Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. Now, Torsten Muller-Otvos, head of the BMW AG unit, admitted that Rolls-Royce would develop a fully electric vehicle if it can “find a battery technology that can offer ranges that are acceptable to our customers.” In the past, the British automaker has doubted the viability of using electric technology but its views are changing.

Rolls-Royce benefits from having BMW as its parent company, which has invested into electrified vehicles with the BMW i sub-brand.

This week at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche unveiled its Mission E concept that previews the German automaker’s electric vehicle offering while Audi also showed off its electric future with the e-tron quattro concept.

Mullert-Otvos did say that Rolls-Royce currently has no final decision on producing an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle and there’s no definitive time frame to make such a decision.
