New Chevy Volt Ads Totally Diss Toyota Prius and Nissan Leaf

Chevrolet has come out with some new ads promoting its redesigned 2016 Volt, and they totally throw the Toyota Prius and Nissan Leaf under the bus.

Apparently filmed with “real people” and not actors (sure), the ads take focus groups and subject them to awkward situations before making a positive point about the Volt and dissing its competitors.

In one ad, the group is shown “technology” like a fax machine, flip phone, pagers and a disc man. Then the guy who’s in on the secret takes a jab at the Toyota Prius by saying that the technology powering that hybrid was developed 15 years ago, just like the outdated cassette deck and floppy disc. Ooooh burn.

In the next ad, another focus group is trapped in an elevator. Clearly pissed off, the group is then told that being trapped sucks and that if they drove an all-electric Nissan Leaf, they could get stuck because the battery might run out and it has no gas back up engine like the Volt does.

The 2016 Volt is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 101 hp. For electron storage, it features an 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The hybrid gasoline-electric car will get about 53 miles of all electric range and running on just gasoline, it should return about 42 mpg. The Volt comes out this fall and starts at about $34,000.
