The Tesla Model S now only comes with two battery options.
The American electric automaker quietly killed off its 85-kWh battery option on its sedan while the 90-kWh battery is now only available with all-wheel drive. That means now if you are shopping for a Model S, you can choose between the 70, 70D, 90D or P90D models with the base-level, rear-wheel-drive Model S 70 starting from $71,200 including destination. Opting for the bigger battery and the 90D model will cost you $89,200.

Tesla told Autoblog that the introduction of the 90-kWh battery that “offers unprecedented range and value” has been well received and as a result, the automaker will no longer be offering the 85-kWh battery. The larger battery was introduced last summer and it makes sense that Tesla would phase out the 85-kWh to simplify the available options for its sedan. The 85-kWh battery was never offered on the new Model X crossover.
The company will be announcing its quarterly earnings on Wednesday and its shares have been tumbling leading up to the announcement. Tesla claims it is still on schedule to show off some of the Model 3 come March with production starting in 18 months.
