Last year, Tesla reported losing $889 million, which could buy you a lot of shiny toys.
The losses in 2015 represent a drastic increase compared to Tesla’s $294-million loss in 2014. The American automaker was founded in 2003 and has yet to post a full-year profit, but things are looking up with production of the Model X well underway and the more affordable Model 3 in the pipeline.
Expenses for Tesla are expected to increase this year by 20 percent, so it might be a while until it becomes profitable. But for now, let’s take a look at what $889 million could buy you.

Every Porsche 918 Spyder Manufactured with the Weissach Package
With a starting price of $931,975 including destination, the Porsche 918 Spyder with the Weissach Package is the ultimate Porsche 918 Spyder. Even opting for the much more expensive model (the standard Porsche 918 Spyder costs $847,975), you could still manage to purchase all 918 units Porsche ever created with money to spare for a really really big plot of land to store them all.
Four Playboy Mansions
Earlier this year, the Playboy Mansion went up for sale with Playboy Enterprises looking to get around $200 million for it. The sale also includes giving Hugh Hefner a life state, meaning he gets to continue living there until he dies. To think, with all the money Tesla lost last year, you could not only purchase the Playboy Mansion, you could probably host some wild parties with the leftover money. And maybe even entice Hefner to move out.
Over 1,750 Lamborghini Aventador SVs
Assuming the Lamborghini Aventador SV costs you around $500,000 (it’s actually $493,095 including gas-guzzler tax and destination), you could get your hands on 1,778 of the exotics with what Tesla lost in 2015. At that point, you probably would run out of colors to finish them in and you could drive a new one every day for nearly five years. Here’s to enjoying a 6.5-liter V12 engine with 740 horsepower without consequence.
Two Airbus A380 Passenger Planes
A single Airbus A380 airplane costs $428 million, according to the company, meaning you could purchase two of them with the money Tesla lost last year. Designed to carry up to 853 passengers, you would still have money left over to serve each and every one of them drinks or to fuel up your planes. Then again, it’s literally the complete opposite of what Tesla is trying to do with eco-friendly transportation.
All the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevitas
As one of the world’s most expensive cars, the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita costs nearly $5 million and there’s only two in the world. The name is derived from a Swedish abbreviation that translates into “three whites” and has an exotic white carbon fiber finish like no other. Powered by a 4.8-liter, twin-supercharged V8 engine with 1,004 hp and 797 lb-ft of torque, it may be a few years old, but the CCXR Trevita is one of the most rare vehicles in the world. Last year, boxer Floyd Mayweather boasted on social media that he got his hands on one, which cost him $4.8 million.
We’re guessing that if you had $889 million at your disposal, you could kindly show up at Christian von Koenigsegg’s doorsteps and ask him to build you a few and he’d be very willing to co-operate.
