With five unique models in its lineup, Jaguar has more products at dealerships than ever in its history, and that will expand further soon with a green alternative.
While no one at Jaguar will go on record to verify an electric model is in the works, they may not have to. Speaking to AutoGuide at the New York International Auto Show, brand design director Ian Callum confirmed that a “big surprise” is coming for Jag.
“Within two years, we’ll have something that’s not driven by a petrol engine,” he said, before joking that it’ll have, “just a couple of hamsters.”

What isn’t yet clear is if the new model will be based on an existing platform or if it will be completely unique from any of the existing product architectures. Jaguar has, however, filed patents for the EV-Type name and recently, AutoGuide uncovered additional patent filings for I-Type and I-Pace models, which could be used for electric variants of the F-Type and F-Pace.
But there will be more news or a new model or concept car from Jaguar before the year is out, with Callum promising an additional surprise, which is likely to debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall.
