Tesla is recalling about 2,700 Model X crossovers over a concern that the third-row seats can could fold forward in a crash.

Tesla says that the seats performed well in 15 previous crash tests, though a slightly different 16th test conducted before European deliveries began cause the rear seats to flip forward.

No injuries have been reported as a result of this issue, which Tesla calls a manufacturing defect, rather than a design defect. Tesla’s third row of seats come from an outside supplier, which Tesla says will be picking up the tab for the fix.

Tesla is asking customers to avoid putting passengers in the third row seat until the fix can be conducted. “We are now constructing new third row seat backs to match all affected vehicles,” reads a letter Tesla is sending to Model X owners. “Based on current production rates, we expect all replacements to be completed on a rolling basis over the next five weeks.”
