The leading manufacturer of school buses in North America has rolled out its first all-electric school bus.
Thomas Built Buses, a subsidiary of Daimler, has introduced the Saf-T-Liner C2 Electric Bus that has earned the nickname “Jouley.” Starting in 2019, Jouley will start driving up to 81 kids all over America to school with zero emissions. According to Daimler, Jouley features a 160-kWh battery, providing up to nearly 100 miles (160 kilometers) of range on a single charge. If even longer trips are needed, additional battery packs are available as an option for higher range.

In developing the all-electric bus, Thomas Built Buses was able to take advantage of Daimler’s electric technology resources. The company is known for its legendary yellow school buses and has a market share of 38.7 percent in North America, making it the leading manufacturer of school buses.
It’s almost a surprise it has taken this long for a school bus to go electric, considering most of their commutes are short distance.
