American company Rice Advanced Engineering Systems and Research (RAESR) has unveiled its first-ever car – the wild-looking Tachyon Speed.
The Tachyon Speed is an EV hypercar with a tandem seating position that makes 1,250 horsepower. That dizzyingly high output comes via six direct drive electric motors, which together are also making an absurd 3,650 lb-ft of torque. With a carbon fiber body, the Tachyon tips the scales at just 2,950 lbs – making for some downright ludicrous performance figures. The 0-60 mph sprint is over with in under 3 seconds, while 0-120 mph takes less than seven seconds. It can complete the quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds and is capable of reaching speeds of up to 240 MPH.

Thankfully, Tachyon isn’t just six electric motors wrapped in some fancy-looking bodywork – it’s a cohesive package. With a tandem driving position and a fighter jet-style canopy, the Tachyon boasts an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.39 – just a hair more than the Bugatti Chiron. It also makes 400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph in “low downforce mode,” and will make over 1,000+ of downforce at the same speed with the “high downforce” setup. It also has a range of about 150 miles in real-world driving conditions.
It’s not clear if the Tachyon will ever reach production, but it does seem to be a pretty well-rounded project with some very smart minds behind it. We’re hoping to see more from RAESR in the future, but for now, you can get familiar the Tachyon Speed in the video embedded above.
