Volkswagen has just announced pricing and availability for its first fully electric model to be offered in North America.

The 2015 e-Golf will cost $36,265 for a fully-equipped SEL Premium model (including an $820 destination charge).

The new e-Golf uses a 24.2 kWh lithium-ion battery to deliver 115 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. With a range of between 70 and 90 miles (depending on driving style), Volkswagen says an 80 percent battery charge can be achieved in just 30 minutes.

Impressively, the new e-Golf has the exact same passenger volume as a standard golf, while retaining plenty of cargo space with 22.8 cu-ft behind the rear seats and 52.7 cu-ft with the rear seats folded.

Notable features new to the e-Golf include three driving modes (Normal, Eco and Eco+) as well as three driver-selectable regenerative braking levels.

The new e-Golf will go on sale in November at participating dealerships in select states including California.
