The Tesla Model S might be a popular car among some enthusiasts, but apparently it’s not all that “hot.”
While the Honda Accord remains the most stolen vehicle in the U.S., there was actually an eight-way tie for the least stolen vehicle in the country for 2013.
Consisting mostly of crossovers and SUVs, the study used a claim frequency, which is the number of vehicles reported stolen per 1,000 units produced. With a claim frequency of 0.4, the least stolen vehicles last year were the Dodge Journey, Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi A4, Acura RDX, Toyota Matrix, Lexus HS 250h, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson. For comparison purposes, the average vehicle’s claim frequency is 3.51.

As for the least stolen car this year? The Tesla Model S with a claim frequency of just 0.15. And while some could argue that there’s less Model S on the roads than other vehicles, the claim frequency is a fair metric compare and given that all Model S vehicles on the road today are still under warranty, there is likely a low demand for its parts.
