The baby Porsche Panamera model will be a dedicated electric vehicle in the automaker’s lineup.
It is being reported that the German automaker has decided to not sell gasoline or diesel variants of its long-planned Pajun, instead it’ll be an electric vehicle set to take on Tesla. According to the report from auto motor und sport, Porsche executives believe the sporty sedan segment is already too crowded so the company has decided to fill another niche with its Pajun that is expected to arrive in 2018 or 2019.

As a result, the Pajun will borrow technology from the Panamera S E-Hybrid and it is likely that Porsche will change its name once it heads to production. Porsche is also betting in a couple of years that battery technology will be advanced enough so that EVs can easily offer closer to a 250-mile range, making them far more appealing to the mass market.
