Ford Bolt Competitor Main Art

Chevrolet revealed a pure electric concept car at the Detroit auto show back in January. Called the Bolt, this BMW i3-esque hatchback promises a 200-mile range. Not one to be outdone, the bow tie’s arch nemesis may be planning a rival to this model.

Yes, Ford is reportedly cooking up a plug-in EV that would offer drivers a double-Benjamin’s worth of range. Very little information is known about this car right now but if these rumors are true this yet-unnamed vehicle would be a dedicated model, not just a repurposed product that already exists in the company’s lineup.

The Chevy Bolt could launch in 2017; this date is rumored but not confirmed by the company. There’s strong incentive for the blue-oval brand to pip its longtime rival at the post and get its electric vehicle to market first.

As for when a concept version of this machine could debut is anyone’s guess. However, it’s reported that Ford’s new EV will formally bow at the L.A. Auto Show late this year.
