It appears that the Tesla Model S is about to get a boost for its driving range.
The American automaker’s CEO, Elon Musk, has tweeted that the company will host a press conference this Thursday saying, “About to end range anxiety … via OTA software update. Affects entire Model S fleet.” Up until now, Tesla has mostly relied on hardware upgrades to extend the mileage of its vehicles, such as new battery technology, so it’s unclear what tricks the company has up its sleeves to enhance driving range through a software update.

Possibilities include battery optimizations, a power-saving mode or even smarter navigation, but it is a bold claim by Musk (when isn’t it?) that this update will end range anxiety. Regardless, check back with AutoGuide.com on March 19 to see what Tesla is adding to the Model S.
